A client with a separate retail operation was losing money
every year. The situation got worse as revenue increased!
The client wanted to close the retail portion of the business
and focus solely on the service segment. We were engaged to
help evaluate the bookkeeping and financial management functions.
Creating financials that reflect their industry allowed us
to see that product costs were extremely high. Upon reviewing
their pricing practices, it was discovered that employees
responsible for establishing prices were inadevertently calculating
the mark-up incorrectly. By correcting the problem, the retail
operation now produces more net income than the service segment.
